Wisdom teeth removal should be done by a dentist or specialist surgeon working in a hospital. It is always suggested that this procedure should be attended by a certified wisdom tooth dentist because this procedure can sometimes involve complications.

The procedure that the dentist follows to remove the wisdom tooth is detailed below:

Before Extraction: To numb your tooth and surrounding areas before your wisdom teeth are removed, you will be given an injection of local anesthesia. Wisdom tooth extraction is rarely done under general anesthesia. In this case, you can also go home the same day as the procedure.

During extraction: To access the tooth, a small incision (cut) is made in the gum. A small amount of bone that surrounds the tooth may also need to be removed. There will be some pressure when the tooth is extracted.

This is because your dentist or oral surgeon must expand the socket by moving it back and forth before extracting the tooth. The time it takes to extract a tooth can vary. For simple procedures, it may only take a few minutes. However, it could take more than 20 minutes for more complex procedures.

After extraction: stitches should be used to seal any incisions made. The time it takes for the stitches to dissolve is usually 7-10 days.

You should not eat for 24 hours after wisdom tooth extraction, rinse your mouth with liquid, smoke and drink alcohol, drink hot liquids such as tea or soup, strenuous physical activity.
